FDR’s “Second Bill of Rights”

In the early days of US participation in the Second World War President Franklin Roosevelt delivered a speech outlining a broad array of “rights” he wanted for Americans. Seventy years later, the idea that a sitting President articulated these words seems to me almost inconceivable. In recent years, we’ve made each of the “rights” Roosevelt named less, rather than more widely available. Listen to Roosevelt’s speech and ask why we’ve turned away from the agenda he advocates, whether you think we’ll be better off returning to it, and if you think we will, how you can contribute to our doing so.
