What Price Food Safety? What Cost Food Industry Profit?

Responding to a surge in serious illness and death resulting from hamburger contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, Dr. Kenneth Petersen, USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service scientist opined, “I have to look at the entire industry, not just what is best for public health.” I wonder if I’ll remember that the next time I bite into a burger.
